Dr. George D. Manolis is Professor and Director of Graduate Studies in Earthquake Engineering at the Department of Civil Engineering at Aristotle University in Thessaloniki, Greece.

He was educated at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where he received his PhD in 1980. During the period 1980-1990 he was a faculty member (assistant and then associate professor) at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

He was also guest professor at the University of Patras, Greece, and at the Technical University of Vienna, Austria. Professor Manolis' PhD thesis was on boundary element methods in elastodynamics, a research topic he has pursued to this date. He has also done reseach work on structural dynamics, earthquake engineering and stochastic mechanics, participating in over 35 funded research projects.

His published work includes 4 books, 9 edited volumes, 101 journal papers, and over 100 conference papers. Finally, he is member of numerous scientific and technical societies, and is on the editorial board of the journals Engineering Analysis with Boundary Elements and Archives of Applied Mechanics.
